Organizations

An organization is an enterprise account. It is owned by one user, operated by its members, and has limits that you set. Large organizations can be split into departments, each with a share of the organization's limits.

By the end of this page you will know how to create an organization, manage its members and departments, change its owner, and retire it.

Admin Panel → Platform → Organizations (/admin/organizations)

What members see and do inside an organization is covered in the user guide under Organizations.

The organization list

Columns: Organization, Owner, Plan, Devices, Domains, Labs, Members, Depts, Actions. Usage is shown against the limit; a limit of 0 shows as "∞/plan", meaning the plan default applies.

Each row has Manage and an archive icon.

Creating an organization

Click Add organization. The wizard has four steps.

1. Identity

Optional logo (up to 2 MB), Name, Slug (3 to 30 characters, used in addresses and fixed once created) and Plan (Free, Pro or Enterprise).

2. Owner

The email of the user who will own the organization. You are recorded as the creator but are not added as a member.

3. Limits

LimitNotes

0 means the plan default.

Watch usage on the organization page

The organization's detail page shows what its members are using against these limits. Review it when you change a plan or add a large group of members.

4. Review

Check the summary and click Create organization. Creation is audited.

You can also launch the same wizard from the organizations hub on the normal dashboard.

Managing an organization

Click Manage on a row. The dialog has four tabs.

The Danger tab showing the Transfer ownership field, the Archive button and the Teardown button.

General

Logo (uploads immediately), Name, Plan, limits and per-service caps. The slug is read-only. Click Save changes.

Members

Each member has a role, Member or Admin. Change it from the dropdown, remove a member (with confirmation), or Add someone by email or username.

Departments

Organizations only. Lists the departments, each with Manage and Archive (with confirmation). Add department creates one and splits the organization's limits between departments.

Danger

ActionWhat it doesConfirmation
Transfer ownership to + TransferMakes another user the ownerNone. Check the email before you click.
ArchiveHides the organization from switchers and lists. Its labs, domains and storage are kept.Yes
Teardown…Removes everything the organization holds. See below.Typed phrase
There is no un-archive button

Once archived, an organization cannot be restored from the panel. Ask your engineering team if you archive one by mistake.

Tearing down an organization

Teardown is how you fully retire an organization.

  1. Open Manage → Danger and click Teardown….
  2. Read the preview. It lists every category and how many items will be affected. Child departments are torn down first.
  3. Type DELETE followed by the organization's slug.
  4. Click Run teardown.

Teardown then:

  • stops every instance
  • frees VPN peers and reserved addresses
  • deletes domains
  • removes service users from managed databases
  • revokes sharing grants
  • retires storage, which stays recoverable for a grace period
  • archives the organization

Everything except storage happens immediately. If some items fail, the message says so. Run teardown again to retry the leftovers; items already done are skipped.

All organization actions on this page are audited.

Deletion requests from members

Organization members can ask for their organization to be deleted, but those requests do not appear in the admin panel in this release. If a member asks you directly, use teardown.
